02 Feb 89: Stella & Dot’s Jessica Herrin on Putting $400M Into the Hands of Female Entrepreneurs + Building a Second Act Even Better than the First
For the very first new interview of the year after our winter hiatus, it’s great to be back at the mic in conversation with a woman who is not only a badass entrepreneur herself, but also brings business opportunity to other entrepreneurs – to the tune of $400 million so far.
Meet this week’s guest, Jessica Herrin, founder & CEO of Stella & Dot.
A serial entrepreneur who founded the company that went on to become WeddingChannel.com – you know, only the world’s leading wedding web site – Herrin set out to create a next act that would bring economic upside to other women. Stella & Dot became that – and a whole lot more. Along with delivering supplemental income to the thousands of stylists who sell the brand’s contemporary everyday pieces during home-based parties and trunk shows, Stella & Dot has grown to offer a fine jewelry line, handbags, the KEEP Collective for personalized keepsake accessories and Ever skincare products. Did I mention they also have a foundation that supports various charitable initiatives and remain committed to supply chain transparency and social responsibility? Did I just die and go to heaven? The thing is, all you have to do is listen to Jessica for about 25 seconds to get that this is one seriously down-to-earth entrepreneur. Not only is she spot on with the advice for others building their own companies, but brings honesty where many might just kind of sidestep an issue and move on. Case in point: stick around to the end of the interview to hear what she says trying to write and promote a book while helming a company was really like.
