30: Raven + Lily’s Kirsten Dickerson on Building a B Corp, Sustainable Style & Tiny House Living

Today’s guest is Kirsten Dickerson, founder and CEO of Raven + Lily, known for its chic take on earthy, free-spirited style, high ethical standards and dedication to using eco-friendly materials and handmade apparel, accessories and products for the home to foster women’s empowerment initiatives in countries around the globe (Kenya, Cambodia, Guatemala, Pakistan, USA…the list goes on). Winner of the Sustainable Brand Leaders for Jewelry Award from the Ethical Fashion Forum, the company is both a pioneer in taking sustainable style mainstream and a regular name in boutiques from its own Austin, TX flagship to Australia. The funny thing is, Kirsten didn’t set out to become an entrepreneur – nor did her company even really begin as a company at all.

In the beginning, Kirsten and a group of friends well-versed in the L.A. design scene started Raven + Lily as a non-profit project aiming to help women build more sustainable livelihoods. Today the company is a B Corp that currently helps employ over 1,500 marginalized women. In our talk, Kirsten tells me how her parents’ divorce open the door for her to travel and immerse herself in humanitarian aid projects…and how that led her to the life she leads now. She also schools us on the benefits of going B Corp and lets us in on her very cool, outdoor-friendly Texas lifestyle, one that includes living in 400-square-feet on a huge retreat with a husband and two kids.

But wait, there’s more below!
