#SustainingSustainable: Legal Logistics

February 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The SewEthico Think Tank at the Arlo Hotel Presents: Legal Logistics!

One of the topics that feels the heaviest and most confusing for designers and entrepreneurs falls into the legal department. Between legal lingo and the potential for getting into a huge amount of legal trouble or being sued, and having to pay fines or throw out extra cash to fix legal mistakes, we end up hiring lawyers for things we don’t necessarily need. Don’t get me wrong, I have a lawyer who takes care of my contracts and paperwork, but sometimes it’s good for you to know how to navigate the legal logistics of your business yourself. It does a couple things for you:

  1. It can save you some money to do things yourself in the beginning
  2. It means you can be a smarter business owner when you’re negotiating with a legal team because you know what the process is.
  3. It means that if you’re hiring a lawyer for something, you’ll hire the right person because you know what you’re actually hiring for.

In this session of #SustainingSustainable, we’re going to sit down with Rachel Tobias, fashion lawyer, to straighten out the knots in your legal frameworks. This session isn’t going to be a full-blown legal workshop (although we’re in discussion about doing this in the future!) but this session is going to be a great start. For the interactive learning portion of this event, we’ll be working with a designer to get started on your trademark search and application, and we’re actually going to walk through and do it live so you can see how to get it done. If you’re interested in being the designer who gets to star in this live legal consult/ workshop, shoot me an email at Cat@SewEthico.com.

Event Schedule:

  • 7 pm- Check-in
    • 7:15- 8:30- Talk with Rachel, Live legal consult portion
    • 8:30- Q&A
    • 8:45- break and mingle.
